Washingpool Farm
Sycamore class had a super day at Washingpool Farm on Wednesday for their ‘Expert Day’. Organised by Discover Farming a host of volunteers shared their skills and knowledge with us and we were treated to a carousel of four activities – Pond Dipping with Nick from the Dorset Wildlife Trust, where we talked about nature and then found dragon larvae, and all sorts of interesting wildlife in the water. We learnt about milk, cows and dairy farming with Helen and Amanda, including having a go at milking the wooden cows and labelling the internal organs. The children made fresh pasta, both linguine and pumpkin and ricotta ravioli with Ilaria from Mercato, Bridport and a team of helpers – which was delicious! Lastly, we had great fun on a tractor and trailer ride around the farm, whilst learning about tractors from the experts at Buglers, Beaminster. All had a fantastic, busy day and we are very grateful to Washingpool and the Discover Farming team. We look forward to next year!
