Harvest Week
Following on from our trip to Morrisons we were keen to bake some bread ourselves. We then made our own butter. It took a lot of shaking and we were glad we could work as a team and each do a little bit of work. We then ate some delicious jam sandwiches!
We have also used a mill stone to grind our own flour.
Morrisons Visit
We started our Harvest work with a visit to Morrison's Bakery to find out how they make their bread. We learnt about different types of flour, saw the big machine that mixed the dough and the machines that sized and shaped the dough. We were then lucky enough to help put the dough in the tins ready for proving and then baking. Such a great first hand experience of how bread is made. We were then lucky enough to be let into the biggest bakery secret... how jam gets into the doughnuts.... but we're not telling anyone!!
While at Morrisons we had a tour of the store and talked about where the produce on the deli, butchers and fish counter came from. We also had a little look in the warehouse and the freezer store to help us understand how the shop runs. Thank you so much to Morrisons for hosting us and looking after us so well!
Forest School
Class 1 went on their first forest school adventure this week. We walked up Shutes Lane and back to Symondsbury Estate across the fields. There was lots of things to talk about on our walk. We also saw the animals at the Estate and had a play in the play area - lots of climbing which was great for our gross motor development!
